Broadway for Kids, Too!

Music students in grades 1-5 have been invited to perform on stage with the Eugene Concert Choir and a 7-piece instrumental ensemble on Saturday, April 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hult Center.
The choir’s outreach program provides free passes for each student and their accompanying adult. This includes admission to see the Eugene Concert Choir’s performance of Broadway hits as well as watching your student go on stage and sing with the choir.
Students will be learning the Broadway song, “High Hopes” during music class and be able to perform with other elementary students from around the area. Students should arrive at 10:00 a.m. for rehearsing with the choir and fun games in the lobby at 10:30 a.m.  Additional information and the free passes will be coming soon.  This is an optional performance; transportation will not be provided.

Sounds of Africa

The students have started to practice for our spring music concert, "Sounds of Africa".  This year, we decided to focus on folk songs and stories from Africa since African music has influenced music that we listen to today.  Students will be singing and playing instruments, but also performing a story along with sound effects.  We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the gym!  Please have your student show up by 6:40 p.m. in their classrooms to warm up their voices and get in their correct order.  Also, students may dress up if they wish, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Blues

The Rainy Day Blues Society offered three workshops to students in grades 2-5 on rhythm, Blues history, and songwriting.  After the workshops, they presented a concert of Blues music for the entire school.  Students were invited to come up and play instruments and perform the songs they wrote earlier in the day!

Blues in the Schools

On Tuesday, April 9, the Rainy Day Blues Society will be coming to our school to present their free educational outreach program: Blues in the Schools.  Students in grades 3-5 will rotate through three different workshops, ending with a mini-concert for the entire school.  Last year, it was a huge success and we are looking forward to this opportunity again!

All-State Honors Choir

Congratulations to two of Territorial's fifth graders for being selected to perform with this year's honors choir for the National Association for Music Education All-Northwest Conference in Portland.  They did an amazing job, and worked very hard to learn all of the difficult music!  They put in hours of extra practice time outside of school, and spent their weekend rehearsing and performing.  Thank you to these students for their time and effort, as well as their families for the extra time and commitment for allowing them to have this opportunity!
Students were chosen by the Oregon Music Education Association and were able to sing with students from around the entire state of Oregon.

Music Counts! Grant

For the third year in a row, Territorial Elementary School has been given a Music Counts! Grant from the Oregon Community Foundation.  This year, the $500 was used for books for the music classroom.  We received over 50 brand new books to be used for increasing literacy when addressing musical concepts.  Thank you!

Sounds of the Season

Congratulations to students in grades 1-5 for their spectacular performance at Valley River Center!  The students sang their songs the best they had ever done, and had excellent behavior!  Great job!  Thank you so much to those of you who were able to make it to Eugene and allow us to have an audience to perform for.  It was great seeing all of you there :)
